This is a writing box made of Sendai Tsuishu (Eiraku Tsuishu), which was gifted by my grandmother to my mother (who was born in 1921 and was 15 years old at the time) approximately 90 years ago, around 1935. A handwritten note from my mother remains, stating that it was a gift from a friend in Sendai for her wedding celebration. It has been carefully stored for many years, possessing a profound sense of history after 90 years. ☆ Features ・Technique: Tsuishu, a technique involving layering lacquer multiple times and applying intricate carving. A powerful yet delicate landscape of pavilions and mountains is depicted. ・Background: A representative craft of Sendai from the Taisho to early Showa periods, showcasing the reliable craftsmanship of that era. ・Sentiment: More than just an antique, it is a one-of-a-kind art craft imbued with the history and emotions of three generations of a family. ☆ Details ・Inscription: The back of the accompanying box has an ink inscription that reads Sendai Meisan Eiraku Tsuishu (Sendai Specialty Eiraku Tsuishu). ・Dimensions: 10.5cm x 15.5cm x 3.5cm. ・Accessories: Accompanying box, memo from mother regarding its provenance (written in 2008). ☆ Condition ・Main body: No scratches, chips, or stains are found. ・Accompanying box: There is some dullness due to age and a partial detachment of the lid's fastener, but it does not hinder storage. We wish to pass this art craft, carrying the story of our family, to someone who understands its value and will cherish it for the next generation. Click here for the manufacturer's site
